Description:
Nitrogen is a single substance formed by the element nitrogen, with the chemical formula N₂. It is a colorless and odorless gas at normal temperature and pressure. Nitrogen is the 30th most abundant element on Earth. Considering that nitrogen accounts for 4/5 of the atmosphere, or more than 78% of the atmosphere, there is almost an unlimited amount of nitrogen available.
Typical Application:
Chemical Industry
Nitrogen is an important raw material for the manufacture of nitric acid and nitrogen fertilizer. Through chemical reactions, nitrogen can be synthesized with hydrogen to form ammonia, which is further used to make fertilizers.
Electronic Industry
In the electronics manufacturing industry, nitrogen can be used as a cleaning agent and desiccant to remove surface contaminants and keep components clean and dry.
Medical Field
Nitrogen has many medical applications. Liquid nitrogen is often used for low-temperature anesthesia to reduce bleeding and patient pain during surgery. In addition, nitrogen is also used to make environmental modifiers for superconducting materials.
Food Preservation
Nitrogen is often used in food packaging to preserve freshness and corrosion, and to extend the shelf life of food by replacing oxygen in the packaging.
